Sedation Dentistry Toronto

Some children need extra support to feel calm and comfortable during dental treatment. At Superkids Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we offer sedation dentistry options for children in The Junction and across west Toronto, always with safety, communication, and your child’s well-being as the priority.

Sedation isn’t about “making kids sleep.” It’s about reducing anxiety, helping children tolerate treatment comfortably, and allowing care to be completed safely, especially for younger patients, anxious children, or those with complex needs.

Sedation Options We Offer

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas): Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective way to help children relax during dental treatment. It’s breathed in through the nose and wears off quickly once treatment is done. If a child can breathe comfortably through their nose, nitrous oxide may help reduce fear and make visits smoother.

Oral sedation: In some cases, an oral pre-medication may be recommended to help a child remain calm and relaxed long enough to complete dental treatment over a short period of time. Oral sedation is carefully prescribed and monitored by our pediatric dental team.

General anesthesia: General anesthesia may be recommended when dental treatment cannot be completed safely otherwise, either due to the length of treatment or a child’s inability to tolerate care. All general anesthesia at Superkids is provided by paediatric anesthesiologists who also work at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)

We’ll always review sedation options in advance, explain why a specific approach is recommended, and answer your questions before any decision is made.
